Ch.8 Question

I can't find pattern recognition and action sequence from the J.R. Anderson powerpoint. Can you please tell me where these concepts fit into the powerpoint? Thanks!

Your right, these ideas are not on the slides, although I did talk about them. Pattern recognition and action sequence relate to procedural knowledge. Pattern recognition involves at least one or sometimes a series of “if” statements. It is the process of identifying if the appropriate conditions for an action are in place. For example, I may want to tie my shoes. Several conditions would need to be in place for me to tie my shoes. If those conditions are in place and I realize it, that is “pattern recognition.” When there is pattern recognition the action will “run off” automatically, that behavioral response is an “action sequence.” Thus, if the appropriate pattern of conditions is in place and I recognize it I will automatically tie my shoe.
