To conclude our discussion of information processing theory we focused on how we, as teachers, might enhance the ability of our students to learn by teaching them meta-cognitive skills. To explore this topic I broke the members of the class up into certification groups. Each group was then charged with identifying a specific set of strategies they would use to teach their students improved meta-cognitive skills. Critical to this endeavor was consideration of the students’ age, their level of cognitive development, and the subject matter being taught.
The groups worked on this project for about a half an hour.
Rather than asking each group to share their conclusions with the rest of the class during the class period, I decided to try using a blog to achieve the same end.
Consequently, one member of each team is to post the groups findings to the blog.
Be sure to identify:
1. The certification area of your group 2. The specific grade or age level of the students your considering 3. The content area the group addressed, and 4. The strategies the group chose. As items are posted any member of the classes can comment on the ideas. Remember this is a professional discussion, keep it clean and on topic.
